Point Dimkey at a folder and it keeps a redacted copy in sync. AI works in the copy; whatever it changes comes back as real data. Your originals are never touched — and none of it leaves your machine.
Works with Claude Cowork, Claude Code, WorkBuddy — any AI tool that reads and writes local folders.
Two folders, one direction each.
Drop a file into the original folder and a redacted version shows up in the copy seconds later. Like cloud-drive sync — you don't manage it.
If a file contains sensitive data Dimkey hasn't seen before, it holds that file back until you take a look.
Close the window and it keeps running. Pause it from the tray whenever you want.
Folder sync covers Excel, Word, CSV and TXT; PDFs go through the one-file flow.
When AI edits a file in the copy, Dimkey turns it back into real data — but it does not write over your original. The result lands in a Restored/ folder and waits there.
If the edit is good, hit Replace original: the old version goes to the Trash, the new one takes its place, and you can still undo. If it isn't, ignore it — your original was never touched to begin with.
Whatever the AI writes — markdown, JSON, spreadsheets — the placeholders inside come back as real names.
Every redaction writes a mapping file that stays on your machine. No cloud, no key server. You're the only one who can reverse it.
No account needed for either.
Pick a folder — Dimkey shows you where the copy will go before anything happens.
First full pass — same as a cloud drive's first sync; watch it run.
Hand the copy's path to your AI tool — from then on it reads and writes the copy.
Get a notification, open Restored/ — AI's output, back in real data.
Drag a file in, look over what was detected, export a redacted copy in the same format, and restore from the local mapping when you need the original back. Pasted text works too — no need to save it as a file first.
Three engines work in layers — regex, NER model, and your custom dictionary.
Names, SSN, passport numbers, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses
Company names, tax IDs, institutional addresses, contract and case numbers
Bank accounts, credit card numbers, salary figures, transaction amounts
Add your own sensitive terms with the built-in dictionary. You control what gets redacted.
Let AI read an entire case folder to build a timeline or find contradictions. Client names and case numbers — it never sees one.
Hand a quarter's spreadsheets to AI for analysis. Account numbers, salaries, transaction amounts are all fake. The analysis still holds.
Rosters, résumés, attendance — AI tidies up the redacted version, and what comes back has the real names in it again.
Strip client identity out of deliverables and research data before AI touches them.
